Real Madrid and coach Álvaro Arbeloa agree to part ways

Real Madrid said Tuesday the club and coach Álvaro Arbeloa reached an agreement to part ways. The separation follows a season in which the team failed to win a major trophy for the second consecutive year.

Background on the coaching change Álvaro Arbeloa took over in January after replacing Xabi Alonso. The club had faced player conflicts and on-field struggles at that point. Arbeloa had already indicated at the end of the season that his departure was expected.
