Real Madrid and Sergio Scariolo End Coaching Tenure by Mutual Agreement
Real Madrid announced Thursday that it and coach Sergio Scariolo mutually agreed to end his tenure after one season. Scariolo replaced Chus Mateo last year following a stint with Spain's national team.

Real Madrid and Sergio Scariolo mutually agreed to end the coach's tenure with the Spanish basketball club, Abc News reported. The club made the announcement on Thursday and thanked Scariolo for his work. Scariolo took over last year after replacing Chus Mateo, who became Spain's national team coach.
He had previously coached Real Madrid from 1999 to 2002. During his time with Spain's national team, Scariolo helped the side win five gold medals at the 2019 World Cup and EuroBasket tournaments in 2009, 2011, 2015 and 2022. Spain also earned one silver medal at the 2012 London Olympics and two bronze medals at the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics and 2017 EuroBasket under his leadership.
The Italian served as an assistant coach with the Toronto Raptors during their 2018-19 NBA championship season.
