A reality television personality and his wife sued the City of Los Angeles and the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power in January 2025 after their home was destroyed in the January 7, 2025 Palisades Fire. The suit alleges the city failed to maintain adequate water pressure for firefighting.
foxnews.comA reality television personality filed a lawsuit against the City of Los Angeles and the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power on January 21, 2025, after his Pacific Palisades home was destroyed in the January 7, 2025 Palisades Fire. The complaint alleges the city and utility failed to maintain adequate water supply for firefighting, citing the Santa Ynez Reservoir, a 117-million-gallon facility that had been out of service since early 2024 during repairs.
Plaintiffs argue the lack of available water reduced pressure to hydrants during the wildfire.
The mayor's 78-year-old brother and his wife joined a class-action lawsuit filed May 18, 2026, against the same defendants over losses from the same fire. The couple alleges their Malibu home was destroyed and they suffered smoke inhalation and emotional distress.
The lawsuit makes similar claims about the Santa Ynez Reservoir and is one of thousands of claims tied to the fire, which killed 12 people and destroyed thousands of properties.
City officials have argued the reservoir was offline to comply with drinking water regulations and that extreme winds would have challenged any municipal water system. A spokesperson for the mayor's office stated the mayor has spoken publicly about her brother's loss since January 2025 and noted thousands of people are plaintiffs in the action.
Attorneys for the mayor's brother said family connections are irrelevant and they are entitled to privacy as they pursue legal rights. The reality television personality posted on social media that he was teaming up with the mayor's brother, though the two filed separate lawsuits.
