Recruitment for Ultra-Orthodox Military Units Set for Sunday in Israel

Recruitment for ultra-Orthodox military tracks is set to take place on Sunday across Israel, the military announced. The units involved include the Hetz Company, Netzah Yehuda Battalion, and Hasmonaim Brigade, all of which have operated in various fronts during the current war.

The Hetz Company, part of the Paratroopers Brigade, has conducted operations in the West Bank, Gaza Strip, Lebanon, and Syria. In the West Bank, its soldiers have arrested dozens of suspects and located weapons and terror infrastructure. In the Gaza Strip, the company has supported efforts to hold a specific line under a divisional command.

The Netzah Yehuda Battalion, established as the first such unit to integrate combat service with a religious lifestyle, has operated in the Gaza Strip and Lebanon. During the war, its soldiers have eliminated hundreds of terrorists and destroyed over seven kilometers of underground tunnels in Beit Hanoun.

Training for the battalion includes standard and advanced combat programs lasting about eight months. The Hasmonaim Brigade, the first brigade of its kind, has been active in Gaza, Lebanon, and Syria. In March 2026, it completed initial missions in Lebanon, and over the past two months, it has conducted raids and destroyed infrastructure in western Lebanon.

Last week, the brigade arrested a member of an elite force and transferred the individual for questioning in Israel.

The military stated that these recruitment tracks allow ultra-Orthodox individuals to serve while maintaining their lifestyle, with options for officer and command roles. The Hasmonaim Brigade also provides training in areas such as non-commissioned officer courses, medic courses, and professional skills including UAVs and drones.

In previous recruitment events for similar tracks, protests have occurred at centers in Jerusalem and Tel Hashomer, as well as surrounding areas. No special preparations or traffic announcements have been made for Sunday's event by police or the military.
