Red Sox catcher exits game after fouling ball off left foot

Boston's catcher left the Red Sox's 5-0 win at Rate Field after fouling a pitch off his left foot in the third inning. The player remained in the game to finish his at-bat after the Boston medical staff checked him on the field. He flew out to center field and then limped off before taking his position at first base.

After Chicago's Luisangel Acuna singled, the Red Sox replaced the catcher with Romy Gonzalez. The team announced he exited because of a bruised left foot.

Injury update Manager Chad Tracy said the catcher was moving around well enough after the game that the team did not order an X-ray. Tracy added that the player will be reevaluated Thursday morning to determine his availability for the final game of the series.

"Took a great swing on that ball to finish, and then when he went out and was running around on it, it was bothering him. So we just felt like, let's get him out of there," Tracy said. The Red Sox also lost infielder Anthony Seigler, who was injured while scoring on a wild pitch.

Seigler was replaced by Andruw Monasterio. Tracy said Seigler will be reevaluated Thursday as well.
