Red Sox Pitcher Chapman Says Any Yankees Trade Would Require Prior Apology from Cashman
Aroldis Chapman, 38, recorded 146 saves and three All-Star selections with the Yankees from 2016 to 2022 before a 2022 dispute over a missed practice. He is now 13-13 in saves this season with a 1.00 ERA in 87 appearances for the last-place Boston Red Sox.

Chapman, 38, played for the Yankees from 2016 to 2022, recording 146 saves and earning three All-Star selections during that span.
46 ERA, dealt with a left leg infection from a tattoo, lost the closer role to Clay Holmes, and was left off the playoff roster after missing a mandatory team practice at Yankee Stadium before the AL Division Series.
Chapman maintains he received permission from the Yankees to travel to Miami before that series. Brian Cashman accused him of insubordination at the time. "What happened, happened," Chapman said. " The Red Sox hold a 27-39 record as of June 11, 2026, placing them last in the American League East, 13½ games behind the Tampa Bay Rays and 5½ games out of the third wild-card spot.
Chapman has allowed one run and struck out 26 batters in 19⅔ innings this season while converting all 13 of his save opportunities. 00 ERA, 45 saves and 111 strikeouts in 81 innings. 3 million contract that includes a $13 million club option for 2027 if he pitches at least 40 innings in 2026 and passes a postseason physical.
Chapman has 380 career saves, eight All-Star selections and two championship rings. Chapman told ESPN Deportes he has seen trade rumors on social media and in the press but has no control over his destination. He said any move to New York would first require discussion with the manager.
