Red Sox Pitcher Sonny Gray Posts 2.00 ERA in Five Starts After Injury Return

Boston Red Sox right-hander Sonny Gray has posted a 2.00 ERA and 2.69 FIP over 27 innings in five starts since returning from the 15-day injured list. Gray landed on the injured list April 20 with a right hamstring strain. In the five starts before the injury he posted a 4.30 ERA and 4.41 FIP across 23 innings while allowing a .269 opponent batting average.

On May 30 against the Cleveland Guardians, Gray earned his sixth win of the season by allowing one run on four hits and striking out seven over six innings. Interim manager Chad Tracy has kept Gray on an 80-to-92 pitch limit. Gray carries a 6-1 record and 3.06 ERA with 41 strikeouts in 10 appearances this season. The club also lists Ranger Suarez and Payton Tolle among its starters, with Garrett Crochet expected back from right-shoulder inflammation.
