Boston Red Sox left-hander Aroldis Chapman recorded his 1,364th career strikeout as a reliever Friday night, passing the previous record. The strikeout came on a 98.6 mph pitch to the Angels' Denzer Guzman in the eighth inning. Chapman, 38, has pitched exclusively in relief during 889 major league appearances over 17 seasons.
He has recorded 17 saves in 19 opportunities this season after posting a 1.17 ERA in 2025.

Chapman reached the mark after tying it last Sunday against the Yankees. "I feel very happy, very proud of what I've been able to accomplish," Chapman said through an interpreter. "I just feel very satisfied right now."
The Red Sox defeated the Angels 5-2, and Chapman recorded his 383rd career save. Boston's interim manager said the team showed a video of Chapman's career highlights in the clubhouse after the game. Rookie pitcher Jake Bennett, who earned the win, called the moment "incredible."
