Red Sox score nine runs to defeat Guardians 9-1

The visiting Boston Red Sox scored nine unanswered runs to defeat the Cleveland Guardians 9-1 on Saturday afternoon. Jarren Duran hit a three-run homer and Connor Wong drove in two runs with a single during a six-run ninth inning. Wong also had an RBI double in the sixth inning.

Boston starter Sonny Gray worked six innings, allowing one run on four hits while striking out seven. The right-hander extended his winning streak to four games.

Ninth-inning outburst The Red Sox scored the final nine runs of the game.

Cleveland committed a season-high four errors. Caleb Durbin had two RBIs for Boston, which improved to 14-16 under interim manager Chad Tracy. Boston has won two of its last eight games.

Guardians early lead erased The Guardians took a 1-0 lead in the first inning on a double by Jose Ramirez that scored rookie Travis Bazzana. It was Ramirez's 977th career RBI. Rookie Parker Messick allowed one run over five innings for Cleveland. The left-hander lowered his ERA to 2.21.

The Guardians lost right fielder Angel Martinez to left foot inflammation in the fifth inning. They also remain without left fielder Steven Kwan.
