Red Sox score six runs in seventh to defeat Guardians 9-4

The visiting Boston Red Sox scored six runs in the seventh inning to defeat the Cleveland Guardians 9-4 on Sunday in the final game of a three-game series. Boston trailed 4-3 entering the seventh. Every run scored with two outs. A two-run single by left fielder Masataka Yoshida opened the scoring in the inning.

Game progression Jarren Duran hit his 10th home run of the season in the first inning and extended his hitting streak to eight games. Every player in the Red Sox lineup recorded at least one hit. Cleveland took a 2-1 lead in the second inning on a two-run single by Austin Hedges. Boston regained the lead with two runs in the fifth before the Guardians tied the game and then took a 4-3 advantage.

Pitching and lineup notes Ranger Suarez struck out 10 batters but allowed all four Cleveland runs over five innings. Jovani Moran pitched 1 1/3 scoreless innings of relief to earn the win. Colin Holderman recorded one out and allowed two of Boston's seventh-inning runs.

Guardians starter Tanner Bibee pitched six innings, allowing three runs and striking out five. Chase DeLauter and David Fry each had three hits for Cleveland. The Red Sox lineup did not include Willson Contreras, who entered in the ninth as a defensive replacement while dealing with a hand and wrist issue, or Ceddanne Rafaela, who was scratched with lower-back tightness.
