The Detroit Red Wings and forward Viktor Arvidsson agreed to a two-year, $5 million contract, sources told ESPN. Arvidsson, 33, posted 25 goals and 54 points in 69 games last season while playing on Boston's second line. He was unable to reach a new agreement with the Bruins after the team acquired another winger at the NHL Draft.
The deal carries an average annual value of $2.5 million. Arvidsson's previous contract, signed in 2024, carried a $4 million salary-cap hit. Arvidsson has played 12 NHL seasons and has recorded more than 20 goals in six of those seasons. He represented Sweden at the 2025 4 Nations Face-Off.
The Red Wings are seeking to end a 10-season playoff drought. General manager Steve Yzerman is also addressing a trade request from captain Dylan Larkin. Yzerman has been reviewing offers from a list of teams provided by Larkin but has not yet identified a deal that meets Detroit's needs.
The team also allowed veteran wingers Patrick Kane and David Perron to enter free agency.
