Referee Issues Yellow to Olise but No Cards to Paraguay in France Win

France failed in their bid to have Michael Olise's yellow card overturned ahead of their World Cup quarter-final against Morocco. The Bayern Munich winger was booked after clashing with Matias Galarza in stoppage time during France's 1-0 victory over Paraguay in a last-16 match in Philadelphia. Galarza fell to the ground after Olise grabbed his shirt.

Olise has recorded five assists at the tournament. He would miss France's semi-final against Spain or Belgium if he receives another yellow card in Thursday's quarter-final at 21:00 BST. France manager Didier Deschamps said on Wednesday: "The yellow card has not changed.

FIFA suspended a red card for United States striker Folarin Balogun, making him available for a last-16 tie against Belgium. Bradley Barcola and Manu Kone were also booked for France against Paraguay. Paraguay received no yellow cards from referee Ilgiz Tantashev.

During the match, Paraguay's Gustavo Velazquez attempted to scuff the penalty spot before Kylian Mbappe scored the winner from the spot. France defender Dayot Upamecano received an elbow in the ribs from Gabriel Avalos, and Andres Cubas made a poor tackle on Adrien Rabiot. Former England goalkeeper Joe Hart said Paraguay had "gone way too far" with some of their antics.

Mbappe condemned a Paraguayan senator as "despicable" after she made racist remarks mocking his origin and education. Morocco will be without Ismael Saibari for the quarter-final. The 25-year-old suffered a hamstring injury and was forced off after 22 minutes of Morocco's 3-0 win over Canada in the last 16.
