Remains Found in Olympic National Park Identified After 26 Years

Human remains discovered inside a sleeping bag in a tent in Olympic National Park in Washington state in July 2000 have been identified as a man whose family had not heard from him since 1998. The remains were found along with binoculars, a day hiker pack, a shoulder bag, a folding saw, a blanket and winter gear, according to the park service and the laboratory.

Park officials reported that the items were located inside the tent at the time of discovery. The identification process took place more than 26 years after the remains were first found. Laboratory analysis contributed to confirming the identity of the individual. No additional details about the identification method were provided in the report.
