Rep. Ilhan Omar Attends Wedding of Chief of Staff and Junior Aide

The source added that Omar's attendance and support were inappropriate for a progressive leader.

Office Dynamics Alam was promoted from staff assistant to a policy role in November 2025, one month before the wedding, according to the source. It was unclear if McNutt influenced the decision. Salary data from LegiStorm shows Alam earned $67,000 in 2025, including $1,200 in other compensation in September.

She previously handled scheduling duties. A second source said the marriage announcement surprised some staff, who raised concerns to Omar.

Donald Sherman, CEO of Citizens for Responsible Ethics in Washington, stated there does not appear to be a violation of ethics rules in this case. Omar's personal history includes reconciling with Hirsi in 2018 after divorcing Elmi in 2017, followed by a divorce from Hirsi in 2019.

She married Tim Mynett in 2020 after allegations of an affair that led to calls for an ethics probe.
