Rep. Thomas Kean Scheduled to Return to House Votes on June 30

Rep. Thomas Kean is scheduled to return to Congress for votes on June 30, 2026, his political adviser Harrison Neely told the New Jersey Globe. Kean left Capitol Hill more than 100 days before June 19, 2026.

He has missed 135 votes since March 5, 2026, due to an undisclosed medical condition. Kean confirmed that his medical issues are not chronic and will not affect his cognitive skills. He stated near the end of May 2026 that he was nearing a full recovery, but later pushed his return date back several weeks.

His return would occur right before the House takes a week off for the Fourth of July. Kean would have three days of votes before the House goes out of session after June 30, 2026. Kean is running for reelection against Democrat Rebecca Bennett.

He received an endorsement from President Trump in June 2026 and voted in the primary via absentee ballot. House Speaker Mike Johnson stated in early June 2026 that Kean would return soon and provide full transparency on his health issue. Johnson said Kean’s absence is not a scandalous thing and that people deal with health issues.
