Republican campaign committee adds seven districts to target list

The National Republican Congressional Committee added seven congressional districts to its target list on Monday. The districts are Alabama’s 2nd, Florida’s 14th and 22nd, Louisiana’s 6th, Missouri’s 5th, Ohio’s 1st and Tennessee’s 9th. All seven districts were affected by recent redistricting.

In Louisiana, the state Legislature redrew its map after the Supreme Court ruled that an earlier version created an illegal racial gerrymander.

The list now contains 36 districts held by Democrats.

The National Republican Congressional Committee works to elect Republican candidates to the House. A Republican official said the added districts are held by Democrats defending an unpopular record. The official stated the committee will campaign in those districts to expand the Republican majority.

House balance Republicans hold a 220-215 majority in the House.

Democrats need to gain three seats to win control. Decision Desk HQ currently gives Democrats a 62 percent chance of taking the House, down from 73 percent on June 4.
