Republican congressional candidate Caroline Shinkle said Mayor Zohran Mamdani's tax and crime policies are driving businesses and residents from New York City. She is running in the June 23 primary to replace retiring Representative Jerry Nadler in New York's 12th Congressional District.
Fox NewsRepublican congressional candidate Caroline Shinkle said Mayor Zohran Mamdani's policies on taxes, crime, and business are accelerating the departure of residents and companies from New York City. " She cited the relocation of Citadel CEO Ken Griffin and Goldman Sachs expansion plans elsewhere as examples of the impact.
Shinkle described Mamdani's tax measures as an effort to force higher contributions from wealthy residents that instead prompts them to leave. She said the policies result in "citizens paying their fair share of moving expenses to leave the city" rather than expanding the tax base. " She argued that these conditions discourage businesses and families from remaining in New York.
Shinkle said voters across party lines are expressing concern over public safety and the ability to use public transit without fear. She stated that "safe streets and being able to walk to dinner in the evening and take the subway without fearing for your life" are basic requirements for a functioning city.
She added that fear prevents residents from participating in the economy, limiting growth. Shinkle said her platform focuses on pro-growth, pro-business, and pro-worker policies to reverse current trends. Shinkle, a corporate lawyer and graduate of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Harvard Law School, will face Democratic primary candidates including George Conway, Jack Schlossberg, Micah Lasher, and Alex Bores on June 23.
Fox News Digital reached out to Mamdani's office for comment.
