Republican lawmaker says party needs policy action for midterms

A Republican representative warned Thursday that the party could face significant midterm losses if it does not advance legislation on voter priorities. The representative said the party controls the House, Senate, Supreme Court, and White House yet remains focused on election fraud claims. He added that voters granted Republicans an opportunity that is being wasted.

Voting legislation dispute The comments come as the president pushes Congress to pass a bill imposing new voter identification requirements. Senate members have stated the measure lacks sufficient support to advance. The president canceled a scheduled signing event for a bipartisan housing bill until the voting measure passes.

He also declined to sign an extension of foreign surveillance authority without the voting provisions attached. The voting bill has failed five times on the Senate floor. The representative, who lost a primary earlier this year, said the repeated failures frustrate efforts to enact policy changes.

He filed paperwork with federal election authorities less than a week after the primary loss to continue raising funds for political operations. The representative has not ruled out seeking office again in 2028.
