Rescue team pulls dog from Venezuela rubble five days after quakes

A Salvadoran search and rescue team pulled a small dog named Giselle from rubble in Caraballeda nearly five days after twin earthquakes struck Venezuela. The footage shows the dog licking the face of a rescuer after being freed from a crevice in a collapsed building, with onlookers applauding.

Salvadoran president Nayib Bukele posted the video and wrote that the team worked five hours to free the animal in Residencial El Palmar.

Additional rescues reported Rescue crews have also located other survivors.

An 18-day-old infant and the child's mother were removed from a collapsed high-rise after 32 hours, while a mother and her 9-month-old baby were extracted with only minor injuries, according to Virginia Urban Search and Rescue Task Force 1. Teams from the U.S. and El Salvador are still working to reach a 44-year-old security guard identified as Hernán Gil Flores, who remains trapped beneath a partially collapsed 10-story building in La Guaira.

"It is a very complex rescue," Manny Sampang, a task force leader from the Los Angeles County Fire Department, told CBS News.

7.2 magnitude quakes struck within a minute of each other on June 24, killing more than 1,900 people and leaving tens of thousands missing, the United Nations said.
