Rich Paul Says LeBron James Will Decide His 2026-27 Team on His Own Schedule

Rich Paul, LeBron James' agent, said Monday he does not know when his client will choose a team for the 2026-27 NBA season. Paul added that interested teams have already conveyed their interest and do not need to take further steps. "We're not going to be rushed," Paul said on the "Game Over" podcast.

He noted that several teams had called to ask if they should do more, and he told them all messages had been sent. Tuesday marks three weeks since Paul informed the Los Angeles Lakers that James would not return. James will enter free agency for what would be his record 24th NBA season.

The Golden State Warriors, Cleveland Cavaliers, Philadelphia 76ers and Miami Heat have continued their pursuit, with the three Eastern Conference teams viewed as the leading options. James made public appearances in New York last week and said he would not hold people up much longer.

NBA Commissioner Adam Silver said Thursday that he would like James to announce his decision so the league can complete its schedule.

Paul met privately with Silver afterward and reiterated that the timing rests with James. Paul said the process is a business decision rather than an effort to create attention. "It's not about a 'Decision' or anything like that," he said.

On Tuesday, Paul told ESPN's "The Pat McAfee Show" that he does not know whether the coming season will serve as a farewell tour. He said James has always controlled decisions about his career and body.
