Rob Reiner’s George Washington Cameo Airs in HBO Series Episode Weeks After His Murder

Rob Reiner appeared as George Washington in the second episode of the HBO series “Life, Larry, and the Pursuit of Unhappiness,” which aired on July 3, 2026, washingtontimes.com reported. The episode was timed to the Fourth of July weekend and the United States’ 250th anniversary. Reiner filmed the cameo on the Universal lot on November 13, 2025.

Approximately one month later, Reiner and his wife Michele were killed inside their Brentwood, California, home. Their son, Nick Reiner, was arrested and charged with two counts of first-degree murder; he has pleaded not guilty. In the sketch, Reiner’s Washington character delivers a speech announcing he will not seek a third term and notes that Congress has the power to bar future presidents from remaining in office indefinitely.

Larry David’s colonial character asks what would happen if “some a—hole in office, some narcissistic pr-ck” refused to follow the Constitution. Reiner’s character stresses the importance of a peaceful transfer of power. ” Comedian Jimmy Kimmel appears in the sketch as a fellow colonist.

The episode closes with an “In Memoriam” card honoring Reiner. Larry David and the production team were still editing the sketch two days before Reiner was killed. “Life, Larry, and the Pursuit of Unhappiness” is executive produced by former President Barack Obama’s production company and streams on HBO Max.

The Washington cameo is regarded by entertainment outlets as his final on-screen appearance.
