Rockies Place Sugano and Halvorsen on Injured List, Select Contract of Romano
The Colorado Rockies placed Tomoyuki Sugano and Seth Halvorsen on the 15-day injured list July 4. They also selected the contract of Jordan Romano, who struck out two batters in the ninth inning of a 6-4 loss to the Giants.

The Colorado Rockies placed right-hander Tomoyuki Sugano on the 15-day injured list July 4 due to back spasms that occurred during a pregame catch session before their game against the San Francisco Giants. The move was made retroactive to July 1. Sugano had already been slowed by a fingernail issue earlier in the week.
The team also placed right-hander Seth Halvorsen on the 15-day injured list with shoulder inflammation. In a corresponding move, the Rockies selected the contract of right-hander Jordan Romano from Triple-A Albuquerque. Romano, who signed a minor league deal with Colorado on May 6 after being designated for assignment by the Los Angeles Angels in late April, pitched the ninth inning and recorded two strikeouts on 10 pitches.
He posted a 4.15 ERA with 10 strikeouts and zero walks in nine appearances at Albuquerque after recording a 0-2 record and 10.13 ERA with the Angels. Left-hander Sean Sullivan started in Sugano's place and allowed six runs on 12 hits over 5⅔ innings with four strikeouts in 105 pitches. Sullivan entered the game with a 0-3 record and an 8.87 ERA.
The Rockies lost 6-4. Sugano held an 8-4 record and a 4.80 ERA in his first season with the club. Manager Warren Schaeffer said the back spasms should be very minimal. "I don't think it's a big deal," Schaeffer said.
Schaeffer also addressed Romano's addition. "There was a point there where he was the best big league closer in the game," Schaeffer said. "We signed him, sent him to the lab, gave him some time [at Triple-A].
Romano recorded back-to-back 36-save seasons with the Toronto Blue Jays in 2022 and 2023. He had a 0-2 record and 10.13 ERA with the Angels before his designation for assignment.
