Staff at the Grand Theft Auto VI developer submitted a request for the IWGB Game Workers Union to be recognized. The action follows last year's dismissal of more than 30 employees.
The VergeWorkers at Rockstar Games submitted a request for voluntary recognition of the IWGB Game Workers Union, The Verge reported on June 30. The request follows the studio's dismissal of more than 30 staff members last year. The union stated that its members have organized since 2019 and now represent a significant share of employees at Rockstar studios in Edinburgh, Dundee, Lincoln, Leeds and London.
Rockstar has introduced average pay increases and financial incentives for crunch periods since the organizing began, according to the union. The union seeks greater pay transparency, stronger flexible working policies and measures to reduce crunch. Take-Two, Rockstar's parent company, did not reply to a request for comment.
A final employment tribunal hearing on last year's dismissals is set to begin in September. Grand Theft Auto VI is scheduled for release on November 19, with preorders opened last week at a starting price of $79.99.
