Rod Stewart Cancels San Diego Concert Hours Before Showtime
The 81-year-old singer canceled a Friday night performance in San Diego after organizers cited a sinus infection and later an acute upper respiratory infection. He was later seen attending a World Cup match in New England.
Rod Stewart canceled a scheduled Friday night concert at the North Island Credit Union Amphitheatre in San Diego roughly 40 minutes before he was due onstage. Organizers initially attributed the cancellation to a sinus infection. The singer later stated that doctors had diagnosed an acute upper respiratory infection causing laryngitis.
Stewart posted an apology on social media Friday and said he hoped to reschedule the show, which was part of his “One Last Time” farewell tour. A representative told The San Diego Union-Tribune that the singer had received steroids and other treatment in an attempt to perform.
The representative added that Stewart had been at the venue but lacked a voice.
Saturday morning Stewart posted a video showing himself boarding a private jet with two sons to attend a World Cup match in New England. ” Photos and videos from the match showed him in the stands wearing Scottish colors. Some fans questioned how Stewart appeared able to travel and attend the match after canceling the performance.
A representative for the singer said the medical condition was genuine and that treatment had arrived too late for the San Diego show. Stewart is next scheduled to perform Monday at Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Colorado.
