Rookie guard expected to debut in summer league game Monday

The rookie guard selected sixth overall last month is scheduled to make his professional debut Monday against Golden State. The team opened its summer league schedule with a loss to Sacramento on Saturday and a win over Milwaukee on Sunday. The guard, along with several other players, did not appear in either contest.

Injury background The player missed 14 games during his freshman season at Louisville because of a lower-back issue. Eight absences occurred between December and early January, followed by six more at the end of the year. Summer league coach Dutch Gaitley said the plan is to bring roster players back into the rotation.

He added that the guard’s availability for Monday remains uncertain. Gaitley declined to assign a probability that the player will suit up. “That is above my pay grade,” he said.

Lineup notes Several other players also sat out the first two games, including one recovering from a knee procedure. Milwaukee likewise held out its own rookie for the same reason. A separate trade involving another incoming player is set to become official on Monday.
