Keno Lung, Rosewood’s global senior vice president for talent and culture, said the company designed the benefit to be gender-neutral. He stated that the policy aims to reduce stigma around leave-taking by treating mothers, fathers, and non-birth partners equally.
The company will track return-to-work rates, engagement survey results, and long-term career progression among parents. Rosewood has created employee resource groups, including one for parents and caregivers, to support staff returning from leave. Leadership training will emphasize that caregiving responsibilities should not be viewed as a career disruption.
Several Asian economies, including South Korea, Japan, and Mainland China, also report declining birth rates. Thailand faces similar demographic pressures despite lower per-capita income. Rosewood’s policy exceeds minimum requirements across most of the region.
Other companies have recently reduced family leave benefits. Deloitte cut paid family leave from 16 weeks to eight weeks for some internal support roles. Zoom lowered leave for birth mothers from 22 weeks to 18 weeks and reduced leave for non-birthing parents from 16 weeks to 10 weeks.
Rosewood, founded in Dallas in 1979, is owned by Hong Kong’s Cheng family. Sonia Cheng serves as the company’s CEO. The group opened a property in London in September 2025, with additional projects under construction in Riyadh, Seoul, and Shanghai.
