Russia Launches Major Drone and Missile Attack on Kyiv, Killing at Least 10

Russian forces fired hundreds of drones and dozens of missiles at Kyiv for hours early Thursday in one of the largest aerial assaults on the capital in recent months. The strikes killed at least 10 people and damaged multiple sites across the city, officials said. Rescue teams continued searching for survivors in affected residential areas into the afternoon.

The attack comes as Russian ground forces have slowed their advances in eastern Ukraine. Ukrainian units have reported stiff resistance in several sectors, limiting territorial gains in the region. French broadcaster France 24 reported that the assault further reduced prospects for any immediate halt to the conflict.

The broadcaster's correspondent August Hakansson provided on-the-ground coverage of the aftermath in Kyiv. Air defenses intercepted many of the incoming projectiles, though officials confirmed that a number reached their targets. Local authorities have not yet released a full accounting of damage or additional casualties.

The strikes represent a continuation of Russia's strategy of targeting Ukrainian population centers with long-range weapons even as its frontline progress has moderated.
