Russian forces have placed small teams of drone operators inside Ukrainian kill zones to create pathways for further movement. The teams, typically three to five soldiers, move into basements, damaged buildings, and tree lines to launch and control drones. Once in position, they can hunt Ukrainian drone teams, intercept incoming drones, and strike artillery positions.

Russian units have established multiple outposts in the western part of Kostyantynivka. These positions combine to form drone corridors intended to support larger assaults on the city. Ukrainian sources report that Russian advances toward Kostyantynivka have slowed to roughly one kilometer per week over the past month.

Ukrainian counterattacks in the area have forced Russian commanders to divert troops to protect the infiltration routes.

Russia holds advantages in manpower and armored vehicles, while Ukraine maintains larger stockpiles of drones and better interceptor systems. Russian forward teams face frequent supply shortages because resupply missions are vulnerable to Ukrainian strikes.

Russian interceptor drones such as the Yolka remain in limited numbers and have not yet been deployed at scale across the front. Ukrainian drones continue to contest airspace above the corridors, limiting the effectiveness of Russian operations.
