The attacks killed at least 21 people across Ukraine, according to CBS News reported figures that incorporate AP News counts. At least seven people died in Kyiv, where all 29 Russian ballistic missiles struck targets after 351 drones and 68 missiles were fired overnight.
At least five of those deaths occurred when a residential building partially collapsed in the Podilskyi district. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that at least two dozen Russian ballistic missiles got past air defense systems and struck Kyiv. He had warned on Sunday that Russia was preparing a new large-scale attack.
Zelenskyy plans to press for more Patriot missiles at the NATO summit in Ankara, Turkey. The assault follows a combined Russian attack the previous week that killed at least 31 people in Kyiv. Emergency workers responded to the damaged Podilskyi building as residents carried belongings from the site.
