Russian Strikes Damage Kyiv McDonald’s, Kill Four
Overnight Russian drone and missile attacks struck central Kyiv, damaging Ukraine’s first McDonald’s and killing at least four people. Ukrainian officials reported nearly 100 civilians injured and about 30 buildings damaged or destroyed.
New York PostRussian forces launched hundreds of drones and missiles at Kyiv overnight, striking Ukraine’s first McDonald’s restaurant, which opened in 1997. The building’s marble walls and pillars were riddled with holes, its windows shattered, and its golden arches and sign melted by the heat of the attack.
The Kukyanviska McDonald’s remained standing and continued operating after the assault, which Ukrainian officials described as the sixth strike on the site since February 2022. The same barrage killed at least four people, injured nearly 100 civilians, and damaged dozens of residential buildings, commercial structures, and schools.
Ukrainian officials stated that the attack included an Oreshnik hypersonic missile fired toward the capital. There was no indication the missile carried a nuclear warhead. The same officials said Sunday marked the third time Russia has used the Oreshnik against Ukraine since the war began.
Local reports described the air smelling of burning plastic and building materials after the hours-long assault. Residents, including 62-year-old Natalia Zvarych, sheltered in metro stations during the strikes.
Zelensky said on Telegram that about 30 buildings were damaged or destroyed. He urged the United States, Europe, and other allies to take action, stating decisions were needed. Zelensky also said Moscow targeted water-supply facilities ahead of summer. Moscow authorities reported several deaths in Russian-controlled areas of Ukraine from Ukrainian attacks.
