Russia fired hundreds of drones and dozens of missiles at Ukraine overnight into Sunday, striking more than 50 locations in Kyiv alone. Ukraine's air force detected 90 missiles and 600 drones starting at 18:00 local time on Saturday. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said the capital was the main target, while other regions including Cherkasy, Kharkiv, Kropyvnytskyi, Odesa, Poltava, Sumy, and Zhytomyr were also hit.

Four people were killed in Kyiv and its surrounding areas, and at least 83 people were injured. Kyiv's mayor Vitali Klitschko said two people died in the city and 30 were hospitalized, including two children. Regional head Mykola Kalashnyk reported two additional deaths outside the city.

Russia's defence ministry said the Oreshnik hypersonic missile was used and described the strikes as a response to Ukraine's attacks on civilian infrastructure. President Vladimir Putin accused Ukraine of striking a student dormitory in Starobilsk on Friday, killing 21 people.

Ukraine's general staff confirmed it carried out an attack near Starobilsk but said it targeted an elite Russian military unit. Zelensky stated in a Telegram post that the Oreshnik missile struck Bila Tserkva, though Ukraine's presidential office said it had not confirmed the missile type.

A nine-storey residential building in Kyiv's central Shevchenko district was hit, causing a fire on the upper floors. Debris from a strike near a school air raid shelter blocked the entrance and trapped several people inside. Emergency services responded to multiple sites to extinguish fires, clear debris, and treat the injured.

Zelensky said a water-supply facility was also attacked. Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha confirmed strikes outside Kyiv in the listed regions.
