Russian Strikes Kill 14 in Kyiv Region; Ukraine Reports Missile Shortage

Russian overnight strikes killed at least 14 people in the Kyiv region and left multiple apartment buildings damaged, Ukrainian officials said Monday. The Ukrainian Air Force reported that none of the 23 ballistic missiles fired at the capital were shot down, citing a shortage of interceptor missiles.

It added that aviation, anti-aircraft units, electronic warfare systems and mobile fire groups downed or suppressed 37 missiles and 326 drones out of the total barrage.

Kyiv's top military administrator said 49 people were injured in the capital. Three large apartment blocks partially collapsed after direct hits, and rescuers searched rubble for trapped residents. The mayor of Kyiv said fires broke out in several apartment complexes and that warehouses and a garage workshop were also damaged. Helicopters shuttled water from the river to fight the blazes.

Zelensky said the military successfully intercepted cruise missiles and drones but not ballistic missiles. He appealed for allies to supply more air-defense systems at this week's NATO summit.

“The United States and Europe have enough power to stop this terror.”

Zelensky warned that Moscow would continue striking residential areas as long as defensive Patriot missiles remain in allied stockpiles.

Hours before the latest attack, Zelensky had warned of a second large-scale strike on Kyiv after Thursday's barrage that killed 30 people. Ukraine has continued drone strikes on Russian energy facilities, including terminals near St. Petersburg and sites in occupied Crimea.

Russia said its strikes targeted military and energy infrastructure in retaliation for Ukrainian attacks on Russian territory.
