A strike on 8 June 2026 killed two women and injured 18 people, including four children, in a residential area of Zaporizhzhia, regional authorities said. Emergency crews evacuated residents, treated the wounded and extinguished fires after the attack damaged apartment blocks, homes, vehicles and market kiosks, with debris scattered across nearby streets.

Regional military administration chief Ivan Fedorov said the strike targeted civilian infrastructure and caused extensive destruction in the area.

In the Sumy region, a separate drone strike hit a five-storey residential building in the city of Konotop on the same day. Rescue teams used sniffer dogs and specialised equipment to search the rubble and pull out survivors. Local officials said one elderly woman was killed and three people were injured, including a child, in the Konotop strike.

Russia said it had intercepted 310 Ukrainian drones overnight on 8-9 June 2026. Ukraine's air force reported that Russian forces launched 155 drones, of which 124 were shot down or neutralised. The strikes occurred in Zaporizhzhia and Sumy regions of Ukraine on 8 June 2026.
