Rwanda is exploring a potential partnership with Cleveland Clinic as part of its efforts to advance the country's healthcare system. The Minister of Health received a delegation from Cleveland Clinic along with representatives from the Embassy of the United States in Kigali on May 7.
The meeting aimed to advance ongoing discussions on the partnership and to strengthen collaboration in the health sector. According to the Ministry of Health, the talks focused on medical innovation, research and healthcare development. Cleveland Clinic is a nonprofit academic medical center widely regarded among the world's leading hospitals.
It integrates clinical care with research and education. The institution was founded in 1921 as a multi-specialty group practice. It currently operates 23 hospitals, 300 outpatient facilities and more than 6,700 beds worldwide, supported by over 83,000 caregivers.
In 2025, Cleveland Clinic treated 3.6 million patients and recorded 15.9 million patient encounters, including visits, consultations and other medical services. The institution also conducts medical research and trains future healthcare professionals.
The engagement comes as Rwanda continues to position itself as a regional hub for healthcare services and medical tourism. The country has invested in advanced healthcare infrastructure and international partnerships. Rwanda recently launched a new five-year health strategy and has outlined plans to become a medical tourism destination.
