Ryan Fox Wins Open Championship by One Stroke over Cameron Young

Ryan Fox of New Zealand won the 154th Open Championship on July 19 at Royal Birkdale in Southport, England. He birdied the 72nd hole from 11½ feet after striking a 9-iron approach from 175 yards that stopped short of the cup. Fox posted a final-round 68 to reach 10-under-par 270.
Cameron Young finished second at 9 under par after a 64. Fox's total was one stroke better than Young's. Fox hit a 330-yard drive on the 18th hole before the decisive approach. He had entered the tournament at 170-1 odds.
The 39-year-old Fox is the third male golfer from New Zealand to win a major championship. Bob Charles won the Open in 1963 and Michael Campbell took the U.S. Open in 2005. "I hit two shots exactly how I wanted to hit them," Fox said after the round.
