Sacramento Kings Waive DeMar DeRozan, Ending His One-Season Tenure
The Sacramento Kings waived DeMar DeRozan on Monday after agreeing that only $10 million of his $25.7 million contract for next season was guaranteed. The move turns the 36-year-old into one of the top unrestricted free agents available this offseason.

The Sacramento Kings waived DeMar DeRozan on Monday, turning the six-time All-Star into one of the top unrestricted free agents available this offseason. DeRozan and the Kings agreed to the release after determining that only $10 million of his $25.7 million contract for next season was guaranteed.
The team now has until the end of August to decide whether to stretch the remaining amount over three seasons.
DeRozan, who turns 37 in August, averaged 18.4 points while shooting nearly 50 percent in his 17th NBA season. He appeared in all but five games, extending a streak of at least 70 games played in each of the past five seasons. The Kings acquired DeRozan in a trade with Chicago in the summer of 2024 and later added Zach LaVine at the 2025 trade deadline.
DeRozan has made three All-NBA teams and ranks in the top 25 all time in career scoring. He posted 12 straight seasons averaging at least 20 points before joining Sacramento. "DeRozan had a partial guarantee on his contract for next season, but he and Sacramento worked on his release Monday to allow him to find a new home," Shams Charania reported.
