The VergeApple announced new AI features for its Safari browser at WWDC 2026. The updates include an extension-building tool and automatic tab grouping. Safari has long offered fewer extensions than competing browsers. The company said the gap stems from strict development requirements it has maintained.
A demo showed users describing a desired extension in plain language. Safari then used Apple Intelligence to generate a working extension. One example prompt asked the browser to save and track cooking recipes from websites. The resulting extension displayed saved recipes and allowed users to add notes.
Safari will also sort open tabs into groups based on page content. The company said the feature will place tabs related to the same topic, such as shopping for shoes, into a single labeled group. A separate update will let the Passwords app use Safari and Apple Intelligence to visit sites, sign in, and change compromised passwords automatically.
A new "Notify Me" tool will alert users when a website changes in a specific way. Users can describe the type of change they want to track, such as a product restock or price drop. The company said it is adding these tools more slowly than some competitors while testing reliability.
