The San Jose Sharks signed free-agent forward Mason Marchment to a five-year contract worth approximately $35 million shortly after the NHL free-agency window opened at noon on July 1. The deal carries an average annual value of about $7 million. Marchment split the 2025-26 season between the Seattle Kraken and Columbus Blue Jackets, recording four goals and 13 points in 29 games with Seattle before a midseason trade.
Marchment's career path Marchment went undrafted and advanced through Toronto's minor-league system. He later received short-term NHL opportunities with Florida and Dallas before joining Seattle and Columbus. The 30-year-old posted a career-high 53 points with Dallas in 2023-24 and has reached 22 goals in a season twice.
Sharks' offseason activity The Sharks traded forward William Eklund to the Ottawa Senators for the ninth overall pick in last week's NHL draft and used the selection on defenseman Keaton Verhoeff. San Jose also acquired defenseman Michael Kesselring from the Buffalo Sabres before the draft.
The team selected forward Ivar Stenberg second overall and expects him to join the roster for the 2026-27 season.
