SAP CEO Christian Klein said the approach addresses limitations of current AI models that lack access to company-specific business processes and governance rules.
Klein stated that SAP's ERP systems contain governance requirements and customer-specific extensions developed since 1972. He described a demo in which the Joule agent framework accessed ERP data to generate financial forecasts while checking identity and authorization rules.
The company also introduced a context layer that uses knowledge graphs and domain models trained on SAP code. Philip Hertzig, SAP's chief technology officer, said a process consulting agent helps identify high-impact business challenges before agents are built in Joule Studio.
Anthropic co-founder and president Daniela Amodei spoke via video link and confirmed the integration of Claude into the SAP platform. She said enterprises need AI systems that operate within boundaries set by the companies using them. Klein said the platform allows agents to work across SAP and non-SAP applications through the SAP Business Data Cloud.
He described the effort as building a new SAP that merges AI with 50 years of business data stored in ERP systems.
