Satirical musical about alleged UnitedHealthcare CEO killing to open in New York City

A musical titled "Luigi: The Musical" is scheduled to premiere in New York City on June 15. The show depicts the man charged with killing UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson as a stage character. The production will run at a theater a few miles from the site of the alleged shooting.

The show previously ran in San Francisco in 2025. All five performances sold out and received standing ovations, according to reports.

Production details The musical also features characters based on Sean "Diddy" Combs and FTX founder Sam Bankman-Fried. The creators have described the work as a comedy that does not intend to minimize the seriousness of the alleged crimes. One co-writer stated the show aims to highlight institutions, including the healthcare industry, that have lost public trust.

In the production, the character based on the accused man refers to himself as a "martyr" and sings about the satisfaction of targeting parts of the healthcare system.

Audience response and polling A 2024 poll found that 41 percent of adults aged 18 to 29 viewed killing a CEO as somewhat or completely acceptable. A separate 2025 poll showed 40 percent of young Americans considered political violence acceptable under certain circumstances.

The production is expected to sell out based on the earlier San Francisco run. The show will continue regardless of the trial schedule.
