Satirical Participation Trophy Statue Placed on National Mall

A giant satirical statue of a participation trophy appeared Monday on the National Mall in Washington, D.C. The plaque on the statue reads: “We hereby award President Donald J. ” Additional text states that President Trump joins children who received recognition for simply showing up.

The work comes from Secret Handshake, an anonymous group of artists who have installed prank statues in Washington throughout the administration. Smaller trophies were scattered around the monument. The group previously placed a gold toilet throne mocking the White House ballroom project, an arcade-style video game cabinet spoofing administration messaging on the Iran war, and a statue last fall depicting Trump and Jeffrey Epstein holding hands.

White House spokeswoman Anna Kelly stated that the artists should stick to their art and refrain from weighing in on foreign policy. She added that the United States Military achieved all of its objectives during Operation Epic Fury. The statue references President Trump’s pursuit of awards.

A message to Norway’s prime minister that leaked in January said the country’s decision not to award him the Nobel Peace Prize for stopping eight wars removed any obligation to think purely of peace. FIFA awarded Trump a newly created Peace Prize the month before. A tentative peace deal between the U.S.

And Iran collapsed this month. President Trump said Monday he will reimpose a U.S. blockade on Iranian ports and charge a 20 percent fee on cargo passing through the Strait of Hormuz. On Friday the administration notified Congress that fighting has resumed.
