Saudi Arabia Raises Film Production Rebates to 60%, Among World's Most Generous, Despite Collection Challenges
The kingdom increased cash-back incentives last month to draw international shoots to its varied landscapes. Producers report ongoing difficulties collecting the funds.
en.antaranews.comSaudi Arabia raised production rebates to as much as 60 percent in May 2026. The new rate ranks among the most generous offered by any government. Producers say collecting the rebate funds can be difficult.
Confusion about the rebate process has slowed the industry’s development. One producer launched a Saudi-based company to help foreign studios navigate the rebate system and get paid, according to a report in Puck. Film production is unlikely to become a pillar of the Saudi economy, Mohammed Sergie wrote in Semafor.
It supports a broader entertainment strategy spanning cinemas, streaming, gaming, and media. The incentives aim to attract filmmakers to the kingdom’s coastlines, deserts, mountains, and rapidly transforming cities. There will be some takers given the incentives, Sergie added, but the government will need to make the business of show business easier for the sector to flourish.
