Savannah Guthrie to Host New Wordle Game Show

Savannah Guthrie confirmed on Monday's episode of the Today show that she will host a new game show based on the New York Times puzzle Wordle. The journalist made the announcement alongside the project's executive producer. The game show will begin filming this summer.

The two had kept the project secret for some time. The executive producer said they had been looking for the perfect host and that Guthrie performed well during a pilot episode. He referenced her prior experience guest-hosting Jeopardy for two weeks in 2021.

News of the game show's development and Guthrie's involvement first became public in October 2025. The project is based on the daily word puzzle that gained popularity after its acquisition by the New York Times.

The announcement arrives while Guthrie's family continues to search for her mother, Nancy Guthrie. The 84-year-old was last seen at her home in Arizona in January. Guthrie stepped back from the Today show for several months following the disappearance.

In a video posted in February, Guthrie said her mother "may already be lost" and that the family would need to know her whereabouts. She returned to the Today show in April. On Monday she wore attire that served as a subtle acknowledgment related to the ongoing search.

Guthrie posted a tribute on Instagram over the weekend stating, "We miss you with every breath. We will never stop looking for you. " Her husband posted a separate message describing her as the strongest person. The disappearance has drawn public attention in recent months alongside updates on Guthrie's professional activities.
