Scheffler and Hovland to Decide Travelers Championship in Monday Playoff

Scottie Scheffler made an 8-foot par putt on the 18th hole at TPC River Highlands on Sunday and pumped his fist, forcing a sudden-death playoff against Viktor Hovland at the Travelers Championship. The final round was halted for 90 minutes by storms while both players stood in the fairway on the 14th hole.

Monday. Scheffler and Hovland finished tied at 21-under-par 259 after Scheffler posted a 68 and Hovland a 69. Hovland entered the final round with a one-shot lead. Collin Morikawa finished one shot back at 20-under after a closing 61.

Scheffler had birdied three times against one bogey. Hovland went through a 10-hole stretch with only two pars before making a 15-foot birdie on the 14th after play resumed. Scheffler answered with a 6-foot par putt on the same hole to maintain his position.

Scheffler missed a 10-foot birdie attempt on the 17th that spun off the left edge. From wet rough right of the 18th fairway he hit to inside 30 feet, then rolled the par putt after his 30-foot birdie try ran 8 feet past. Hovland’s 25-foot birdie attempt on the 18th missed by inches.

This marks the first time a PGA Tour event has extended to an extra day since The Players Championship last year. Scheffler said after the round, “It’s more fun when you’re making the ones to win. But to keep yourself in it is also nice.
