Scotland's squad arrived in Fort Lauderdale three days after Clarke signed a new four-year contract. The Scottish FA arranged stays in central locations in Boston and Miami and secured the Charlotte facility previously used by Real Madrid and Inter Milan.

Tournament results Scotland recorded a 1-0 win over Haiti and a 4-0 friendly win over Bolivia before group-stage losses to Morocco and Brazil. Clarke resigned three days after the Brazil match. The team had entered the tournament with a stated goal of reaching the knockout stage for the first time at a major tournament.

Opta had assessed Scotland's chances of advancing at 42 percent after the Hungary loss at the previous European Championship.

Preparation and facilities The squad trained at world-class sites, received custom World Cup-branded equipment, and had access to recovery tools such as a red-light therapy chamber and altitude room. Players were granted days off after matches and time to interact with supporters in match cities.
