Scottie Scheffler practiced at Royal Birkdale on Monday as he prepares to defend his Open Championship title. The world number one missed the cut at the Scottish Open the previous week, his first such result since 2022. Scheffler, 30, won the event at Royal Portrush in 2025.
His most recent victory came at The American Express, the first event of his 2026 season. He enters the final major with one win and four second-place finishes this year. Andrew Coltart said on Sky Sports that Scheffler gave himself extra days to prepare and avoided overdoing practice.
"I’ve never seen Scottie Scheffler so relaxed," Coltart said. " Scheffler will play the first two rounds alongside Bryson DeChambeau and Tyrrell Hatton. DeChambeau has missed the cut at all three majors in 2026.
Coltart said DeChambeau appeared unhappy with his equipment and was adjusting lie angles with a protractor on the range. "I think he’s muddling about with his equipment," Coltart said.
