The Scottish Conservative Party released its election manifesto ahead of the upcoming elections. The document lists priorities such as cutting tax bills, raising school standards, delivering faster GP appointments, fixing roads, and employing more police officers. These policies target various sectors including economy, health, and education.
On cost of living, the manifesto proposes raising the income tax threshold for Scots, providing tax breaks for low, middle, and high earners, and allowing pensioners to reclaim the first £500 paid in tax on pension income. It also includes extended childcare for parents. These measures seek to reduce financial burdens on households.
The party plans to invest in employability services for those in poverty, support nuclear energy plants in Scotland, and back North Sea oil and gas drilling.
Additional proposals involve imposing a two-child cap on the Scottish Child Payment, speeding up planning decisions, cutting red tape, reducing business rates, and cutting the Scottish civil service to 2016 levels. A Scottish Agency of Value and Efficiency would be established to save at least £500 million annually.
In healthcare and care, the manifesto guarantees a GP appointment within 48 hours, aims to reduce waiting lists, and increase screenings for at-risk individuals.
It calls for above-inflation funding increases for the NHS, bringing back recently retired doctors and nurses, fast-tracking the NHS app rollout, greater access to weight-loss drugs, and improved services for menopause and endometriosis.
Regarding immigration, the party intends to reverse policies easing asylum seekers' access to housing and scrap free bus travel for asylum seekers.
On democracy, it opposes a second independence referendum, seeks to prevent the Scottish government from overturning local planning decisions, and proposes banning roles such as diversity and inclusion officers in the public sector. Housing policies include abolishing the Land and Buildings Transaction Tax, establishing re-population zones for communities facing decline, scrapping new household costs from net-zero targets, opposing the Building Safety Levy, and scrapping rent controls.
