Scottish Woman Found Dead in Ghana Hotel After Six-Month Marriage
Charmain Speirs, 40, died in a Ghana hotel bathtub in March 2015. Her husband, Eric Adusah, was charged with murder then released for lack of evidence.
news.sky.comCharmain Speirs, 40, from Arbroath, Scotland, was found dead in a hotel bathtub in Ghana on 20 March 2015, six months after marrying Eric Adusah, head pastor of the Global Light Revival church. Adusah was charged with her murder but later released due to insufficient evidence. He has denied involvement and now lives in the United States under the name Eric Isaiah Kusi Boateng.
Speirs met Adusah through a Christian dating site in spring 2014. They married in September that year after a short courtship. Friends told the BBC that Speirs became known as the "first lady" within Adusah's church and appeared on church publicity materials.
Adams, who had hosted Adusah in Edinburgh, said Speirs appeared distressed in phone calls and described financial dependence on her husband. Anne-Marie Bond reported that Speirs told her Adusah used different identities and had other relationships. A church member who spoke to Speirs in Ghana on 16 March 2015 said Speirs planned to confront Adusah that evening about his background and claimed he had another wife in Ghana.
Adusah told police he left the hotel after midnight for a meeting in Accra. The BBC reported that the man he named did not confirm the meeting and that three men visited the couple's room that night. More than ten years later, Speirs' friends continue to question the circumstances of her death.
