Scout Association Investigates Gaza Painting Event After Complaint

The Scout Association has launched an investigation into one of its branches after a painting activity encouraged young members to create artwork supporting Gaza. GB News reported that the Muslim Scout Fellowship organised the event last December in partnership with Islamic Relief.

The activity produced multiple paintings, including one bearing the words 'from the river to the sea, Palestine will be free' and another depicting Israel in the colours of the Palestinian flag alongside an image of al-Aqsa Mosque.

The Henry Jackson Society submitted a formal complaint to the Scout Association and urged a review of the images in a letter seen by The Telegraph. GB News reported that the organisation highlighted the slogan's prohibition in Germany and parts of Australia. A second painting featured the same outline with Palestinian symbols including a large watermelon and the same phrase split across the map.

The Scout Association confirmed it is aware of the complaint and is treating the concerns with the utmost seriousness. A spokesman stated the organisation has a robust process to ensure matters are investigated thoroughly, impartially and fairly, and noted that the complaint remains at an early stage. GB News reported that the association maintains a formal political neutrality policy.

Emma Schubart, a research fellow at the Henry Jackson Society, said the Scout Association cannot simply ignore the matter and must explain whether the artwork aligns with the values expected of Scout groups. The Scout Association's code of conduct commits the movement to opposing prejudice and discrimination while requiring equal access for young people from all backgrounds.
