dohanews.coA 30-year-old California tourist has been missing in Costa Rica since June 2 after flash floods and mudslides struck the area where she was hiking. Search-and-rescue teams suspended operations because of ongoing severe weather, according to a family statement posted on a GoFundMe page on June 12.
Weather conditions Costa Rican authorities issued a nationwide green alert on June 4 after declaring that an intensifying rainy season and a developing Pacific low-pressure system increase the risk of additional flooding and landslides. The alert covers the entire country, and officials said unstable weather is expected to continue for the next couple of weeks.
Family response The family wrote that search efforts have been temporarily paused due to the severe weather conditions. They also stated they are asking for prayers for the missing hiker, her family, and for peace, strength, and closure. The family noted they are honoring the hiker's deep love for animals while they wait for updates.
